The Ceralox division of Sasol North America Inc. began commercial production of ultra
high purity aluminum oxide using proprietary acid purification technology in late 1987.
The technology is based on two U.S. patents (No. 4,560,541 and No. 4,634,581). CERALOX®
ultra high purity gamma alumina is produced via the decomposition of ultra pure aluminum
chloride hexahydrate (AlCl3·6H2O).
Ceralox further processes the ultra-pure gamma alumina into application specific products
using proprietary high temperature calcination and/or milling technology. The
CERALOX ultra high purity alumina production process efficiently produces aluminas with
purities ranging from 99.99% Al2O3 to
99.999% Al2O3. CERALOX ultra
high purity aluminas are classified into three general product groupings or grades of
alumina, SPA, TPA, and HPA.

In 1990 Ceralox began the production of specialty high purity aluminas produced from
proprietary synthetic boehmite alumina feedstocks. Ceralox produced aluminas from
synthetic boehmite are grouped under the APA product category. CERALOX APA
offers affordable High purity performance with lower impurities than are found in typical Bayer process aluminas.
High purity CERALOX APA alumina products range from 99.8% up to 99.96% Al2O3.
Ceralox High purity alumina technology offers unmatched control over the primary crystallite size,
unique morphology, and very low sodium content. Ceralox supplies gamma phase through alpha
phase high purity alumina.
