CERALOX® aluminas,in addition to very high purity, have specialty tailored physical
properties. One technique Ceralox uses to incorporate unique physical properties in its
alumina products is the application of thermal treatment (calcination). Ceralox
specializes in the production of aluminas calcined to the alpha phase, however, gamma,
delta and theta or transitional phase aluminas are also supplied. Precise control over
calcination parameters and the impact this control has on surface area and phase
uniformity provides improved alumina properties. Ceralox utilizes differing kiln
technologies to achieve desired product properties.
Ceralox utilizes its milling technology to reduce the agglomerate particle size of its
products. The milling technique employed has a significant impact on the physical
properties of a powder. By using different types of milling technologies, Ceralox
can tailor a powder's particle size to meet specific market needs. Control over the
milling process also influences the loose, packed and pressed density of a powder. Ceralox
has developed milling technology to efficiently mill high surface area gamma aluminas, as
well as very low surface area, alpha aluminas.
Very uniform particle size distributions for producers of alumina polishing slurries
are produced by combining precise control over the primary crystallite size with the use
of sophisticated milling equipment. All milling technology used by Ceralox maintains our
commitment to ultra high purity.
